The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi experienced an IT outage following a suspected ransomware attack. The attack affected the hospital’s digital services, including lab services, billing, and appointment systems. AIIMS shifted to manual operations and sought assistance to restore its digital services. The hospital has seen 12,000 patients daily since the incident. Investigations suggest the involvement of foreign actors, and reports indicate that the attack may have exposed the records of around 40 million patients. The incident raises concerns as AIIMS plans to fully implement its e-hospital system next year.
