Researchers at Mass General Brigham have tested artificial intelligence (AI) language models on pain perception and prescribing. They found no evidence of racial or gender discrimination, suggesting the models could help address bias in pain management and provide more equitable treatment. The tests used 480 representative pain cases, with identifiers for race and sex removed, and asked the models to make subjective pain ratings and management recommendations.
