AHIMA calls on Congress to fight opioids with information sharing, patient matching

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) is advocating for two proposed bills in Congress that could address the opioid epidemic by allowing physicians to access patients’ addiction treatment information. AHIMA is urging support for H.R.3545 and S.1850, which would modernize privacy protocols and enable better information sharing in a secure and appropriate manner. AHIMA is also asking Congress to lift the ban on creating a system for patient identification to ensure accurate patient matching.
