Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston has identified a $40m loss due to medication wastage from issues in inventory management. Pharmacy director Gee Mathen and manager of application and technical services Craig Lane have developed a workflow using RFID to track high-value drugs, which will reduce costs and provide opportunities for “preventing these kinds of losses”. The new system is already saving staff time and has reduced overstocking, resulting in a $50,000 saving at one site alone.
