A Healthy Lifestyle Can Add Years to Life, Despite ‘Bad’ Genes

Having certain family genes that predict a short lifespan is not a death knell but a chance to defy those genetics through lifestyle changes, according to a study of 350,000 people. Those with a high genetic risk of a short lifespan suffered a 21% increased risk of premature death, but leading a healthy lifestyle could offset this by as much as 62%. The optimal abstinence from smoking, regular exercise, quality sleep, and balanced diet offer better benefits for a prolonged lifespan.
