Memphis, Tenn.-based Regional One Health is moving forward with its $1 billion hospital campus project, The Commercial Appeal reported Sept. 29.
The health system named 10 firms to design and build the new campus during a Sept. 29 news conference.
The campus, developed in partnership with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, was originally planned for the current hospital property but will now be built at a new location to minimize disruptions to ongoing operations, according to a Feb. 2 health system news release. The Shelby County Board of Commissioners approved the new location in January.
“While anchoring downtown, this new site preserves essential academic medical center services in the same area while also giving us more flexibility in how we build the new facility,” Reginald Coopwood, MD, president and CEO of Regional One Health, said in the February release. “This transformative construction project reflects our continued commitment to advance patient care and modernize our facilities to meet the healthcare needs of the community.”
The project is backed by a $500 million county investment, which was secured through a wheel tax increase, The Commercial Appeal reported. Becker’s reported in 2023 that the hospital’s then-$750 million plan would require $350 million in local funds.
