Hack of Contractor Was at Root of Massive Federal Data Breach

Opexus, a software company that handled personal data for every federal agency in the US, was compromised in February due to a “major lapse” in security, according to documents obtained by Bloomberg News. The breach was carried out by Muneeb and Suhaib Akhter, twin brothers and former employees who had previous hacking convictions. The breach resulted in the deletion or compromise of dozens of databases.
