Signal has begun using a Microsoft API designed to protect copyrighted material to prevent Microsoft’s Recall system from indexing private messages. The move is in response to Recall’s lack of user privacy protections and indexing of personal data without consent. The API adds privacy by preventing Windows from screenshotting app content. The measure only works when all parties haven’t changed default settings on the Windows Desktop version of Signal.
