Kettering Health in Ohio has been hit by a cyber attack causing service disruptions, including cancellations of surgeries, and fraudsters subsequently calling patients to request credit card payments for medical expenses. The cyber attackers, linked to the Interlock ransomware gang, stole sensitive data and asked for an extortion fee. Kettering Health confirmed the scam calls and stopped normal billing calls. As a response measure, healthcare providers are being advised to conduct regular security assessments and share threat intelligence.
