Two major cyberattacks last year put patients in the National Health Service (NHS) at risk according to government data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act. One attack was likely on Synnovis, a pathology services provider, which disrupted operations and appointments in several NHS hospitals. Another attack affected cancer treatments at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. Though no fatalities or casualties resulted from these incidents, they did cause potential clinical harm to more than 50 patients. The UK government aims to update the Network and Information Systems Regulations to include software companies.
