Skitnet, a new malware, is being increasingly used by ransomware gang members for stealthy post-exploitation activities on breached networks. Reports suggest that Skitnet helps in streamlining ransomware operations and is being sold on underground forums. Prodaft researchers have observed multiple ransomware operations deploying Skitnet in real-world attacks. The malware begins with a Rust-based loader, which establishes a DNS-based reverse shell for communication leading to further attack customization.
