MSU study: Ransomware drives US health data breaches | MSUToday

According to a study, ransomware attacks have become the main reason for health care data breaches in the US, compromising 285 million patient records over 15 years. The research found that in 2024, ransomware was accountable for just 11% of breaches but was responsible for 69% of all compromised patient records. Ransomware breaches grew from 0 in 2010 to 222 in 2021, making up almost a third of all major health care breaches that year.
