Scientists at Northwestern University have developed a method to trap proteins before they form toxic structures that progress neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s. The approach uses peptide-based molecules known as amphiphiles and a sugar called trehalose. The method was found to significantly improve the survival of stressed lab-grown human neurons and offers a promising path towards treating various neurodegenerative conditions, although more work is required.
