Non-diagnosis and lack of treatment can lead to impairment, poor self-esteem, mood disorders and suicidality among other serious issues. Environment does not cause the disease but can worsen it. Coping skills to manage life with the disorder can also lead to extraordinary success. Timely diagnosis allows for various treatments including psychoeducation, therapy, medication and teaching everybody involved how to understand and manage the disorder.
