Cybercriminals are using AI for sophisticated, personalised phishing attacks and to automate tax fraud and identity theft on a large scale. AI is also employed for deepfake voice calls and dark web data mining. Measures to combat these threats include employee training, AI-based fraud detection, multi-factor authentication, and strict verification procedures. In the future, fraudulent AI chatbots impersonating IRS agents are predicted.
