The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) has called for more investment in growing and supporting the medical workforce, following a strike by doctors in New South Wales. The RACP said issues including burnout, fatigue, long working hours and staff shortages are indicative of wider national health workforce and wellbeing issues. This insufficient number of doctors also impacts patients, leading to long waitlists, delayed treatment and increased costs. The RACP is thus urging the Australian governments to allocate more resources to the training and welfare of medical professionals.
