Email bombing, a tactic where individuals are flooded with emails to disguise phishing attempts, is being increasingly used by cyber attackers. Darktrace’s behavioral analysis tool was able to detect the attack, identifying over 150 emails from 107 various domains within five minutes. Standard Email Security Gateways often miss such attacks as emails come from legitimate sources. Without fully enabling Darktrace’s defensive capabilities, the victim disclosed credentials after being contacted by the attackers posing as the IT department.
