The Trump administration has finalized significantly higher payment rates for Medicare Advantage (MA) plans for 2026, resulting in a 5.1% benchmark increase. This is expected to expedite margin recovery for such plans, and should result in more than $25 billion in additional payments going to MA plans next year. The announcement sent insurer stocks soaring. Despite the favorable changes, the administration also concluded implementation of adjustments to coding practices, intended to curb the inflation of plan members’ ailments for greater reimbursements.
