Counterfeit smartphone models have been found pre-loaded with Triada, a modified version of Android malware. Over 2,600 users have encountered this new version, primarily in Russia. The malware can steal sensitive information and enlists infected devices for malicious activities. Since 2016, altered versions have also been discovered in off-brand tablets, TV boxes, and digital projectors. Online security firm Kaspersky’s latest analysis shows the malware is located within the system framework, allowing unfettered access and control of the device by attackers.
