Outlaw Group Uses SSH Brute-Force to Deploy Cryptojacking Malware on Linux Servers

Cybersecurity researchers have revealed details about Outlaw, an “auto-propagating” cryptocurrency mining botnet that targets SSH servers with weak credentials. The Romanian-origin malware performs SSH brute-force attacks and crypto mining and propagates like a worm to infect systems and maintain control over them. Active since 2018, Outlaw uses a multi-stage infection process and a component for self-propagation, and also exploits Linux and Unix systems susceptible to specific vulnerabilities.
