Peter Marks, the director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), has resigned, criticising the anti-vaccine policies of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services. His departure is seen as a major loss for the biotech industry. Marks was instrumental in the rapid deployment of RNA vaccines for COVID-19 in 2020 and the approval of 22 gene therapies during his nine years at the FDA.
