Cybersecurity firms Bitdefender and IAS Threat Lab have warned that a massive malware campaign has compromised over 331 apps on Google Play Store, putting millions of Android phone users at risk. These malicious apps can steal passwords and credit card info, covertly display ads, and disguise themselves as legitimate apps, further, they can hide their icons on phones running Android 13 or newer. Despite Google’s attempts to remove them, the malware campaign is still active.
