Northwestern Medicine in Chicago has performed a successful liver transplant on a terminal colorectal cancer patient, splitting a donated liver between the cancer patient and a 57-year-old woman with severe liver scarring. The advanced technique, known as resection and partial liver transplantation with delayed total hepatectomy, saw the remaining part of the cancerous liver removed weeks after the initial transplantation.
