Bitdefender has identified over 331 potentially malicious apps on the Google Play Store that have been downloaded more than 60 million times. Part of a mass ad fraud campaign, these apps could put user data and privacy at risk. The majority have been removed from the store, but several of them prevail. Recommendations to mitigate risk include limiting the number of apps on one’s device, considering the necessity of a new app before downloading it, and using paid antivirus apps alongside Google’s built-in Play Protect security software.
