‘Polymorphic malware,’ new headache for Karnataka cyber police; victims lost Rs 2,900 crore in 2024

As cybercriminals in Karnataka, India, increasingly use ‘polymorphic malware’ to evade detection, the fight against cybercrime becomes more complicated. This digital chameleon virus constantly alters its code, making traditional detection techniques ineffective. Despite efforts to train judicial officers and police personnel, the current cybersecurity tools are still insufficient to address this evolving threat. Only 1,248 out of 20,092 cybercrime cases were solved in 2024, leading to a significant financial loss for victims.
