The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee has advanced Marty Makary’s nomination as Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Makary, a surgeon and public policy researcher at Johns Hopkins University, is a supporter of the Trump administration’s health agenda and a critic of COVID-19 lockdowns. Despite some initial resistance from Republican senators over Makary’s choice of top FDA counsel, he was still voted through 14-9.
