What PowerSchool won’t say about its data breach affecting millions of students

California-based edtech company PowerSchool suffered a significant data breach in early 2025, with the scale potentially “massive”. A hacker gained access using a single compromised credential and may have obtained personal data of 62 million students and 9.5 million teachers. PowerSchool refused to confirm these figures or specify what types of data were stolen. PowerSchool won’t disclose if extortion money was paid to the hackers and insufficient information exists to identify the source of the cyberattack.
