A mass malware campaign is infecting users with a cryptocurrency miner, SilentCryptoMiner, disguised as a tool to unblock internet restrictions. Russian cyber security company, Kaspersky, revealed that over 2000 users have fallen victim to the scam, shared via a YouTube channel with 60,000 subscribers. The miner, concealed in an executable file, circumvents anti-virus scans using process hollowing and can be remotely controlled.
