Socket, a software security solutions provider, has exposed a typosquatting campaign distributing malware to Linux and macOS systems through Go programming language packages. Deploying a typosquatting technique, hackers distribute malware disguised as legitimate Go packages, designed to install hidden malware loaders on targeted systems. Socket’s investigation has identified seven such deceptive packages on the Go Module Mirror. These packages imitate popular libraries and trick financial sector developers into importing malware that can potentially steal sensitive data or credentials.
