The BadBox Android malware botnet was disrupted by eliminating 24 malicious apps from Google Play and blocking communications for half a million infected devices. Predominantly affecting low-cost Android devices, the BadBox botnet accounts for over a million infections across 222 countries. Cyber-fraud operation BadBox 2.0 was thwarted by HUMAN’s Satori Threat Intelligence team, Google, and other partners with preventative measures including sinkholing domains, removing corrupt apps, and banning offenders from Google Ads. However, BadBox infections remain in devices sold globally.
