UK braces for blizzards with amber warnings in place as mercury plunges to -5C after baby killed in crash on icy road

The Met Office has issued two amber and two yellow weather alerts across the UK for snow and ice. Temperatures have reportedly dropped to -5C in parts of the country, with the coldest point reaching -8C in Oxfordshire. These adverse weather conditions come after a baby was killed in a car accident which may have been caused by icy roads. Amber alerts from public health bosses have been enacted for the entirety of England until 8 January.
