The government has increased the coast guard budget by over 26% to bolster the force, enabling the acquisition of patrol vessels, air cushion vehicles and interceptor boats. In the past year, rescues have included 115 pirates and resulted in drug seizures worth about INR37,000 crore ($5.2bn).
