A previously unknown Linux backdoor malware, Auto-Color, was discovered attacking North American and Asian universities and government organisations between November and December 2024, according to Palo Alto Networks’ Unit 42 researchers. The malware, which has similarities to the Symbiote Linux malware, is evasive, hard to remove, and features a custom encryption system. Auto-Color provides remote access to threat actors, manipulates system functions and can delete infection traces.
