SIO linked to Android malware disguised as popular apps

Italian spyware firm SIO created Spyrtacus, malware disguised as popular Android apps since 2018, which can steal text messages and record calls. The spyware is suspected to be used by the Italian government. Google claims its Play Store has protections against this malware. Targets are unidentified, as the news emerges during revelations of a global spyware campaign targeting journalists and civil society members.
