OCR: Warby Parker to pay $1.5M penalty for violating HIPAA

Eyewear manufacturer and online retailer Warby Parker has been fined $1.5 million by the HHS Office for Civil Rights for violating the HIPAA Security Rule and failing to protect electronic health information. The penalty follows a data breach in 2018 that impacted almost 200,000 individuals, an investigation into which revealed several potential HIPAA violations.
