A malware strain named “SparkCat” that can stealthily steal screenshots from smartphones has penetrated Apple’s App Store. Discovered by antivirus provider Kaspersky, it was initially found embedded in an iOS app offering Chinese food delivery. The malware scans text from stored images to identify keywords. If the desired words are found, the malware sends the image to a hacker-managed server. The malware primarily targets wallet recovery phrases for cryptocurrency, but it’s versatile enough to steal other sensitive data from screenshots.
