Cyber attack delayed cancer treatment at NHS hospital

The Wirral University Teaching Hospital Trust in Merseyside, UK, has admitted that waiting times for cancer treatment have grown following a major cyber attack in late 2021. The hospital switched to paper-based systems amid the attack, which forced the cancellation of outpatient appointments from 25 November to 4 December. Despite the delays, hospital staff were able to maintain some services. Cyber attacks on health services are increasing; health organisations are assaulted four times more often than the global average.
