Wirral cyber attack set back cancer waiting times by months

A cyber attack at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust last year significantly impacted cancer, diagnostic and elective pathway waiting times. The major incident, declared in November 2024, led to all outpatient appointments at Arrowe Park Hospital being cancelled. Recovery could take several months, according to Hayley Kendall, COO and deputy Chief Executive. A ransomware attack on NHS pathology provider Synnovis in June 2024 reportedly led to at least two severe patient harm cases.
