The US government has warned of a backdoor in the firmware of Contec CMS8000 patient monitors that could potentially allow unauthorised users to remotely control the device and alter configurations. The devices, developed by China-based Contec Medical Systems, are widely used for patient monitoring in the US and EU. As no patch is currently available, the US FDA has advised medical facilities to unplug and stop using these devices.
