Malware Found in Healthcare Patient Monitors Linked to Chinese IP Address

Contec CMS8000 patient monitors have revealed a cybersecurity vulnerability of embedded malware that risks both patient safety and data security. The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) reported three major vulnerabilities, including a backdoor linked to a Chinese university’s IP address that sends patient data and allows remote file uploads, and transmitting patient data in plain text. Despite repeated alerts, Contec Health has not yet provided effective patches.
