ONC’s HTI-1 Final Rule: Major Certification Changes Ahead

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is implementing changes to its health IT certification program, ending edition-based certifications and adding new requirements for decision support, interoperability, and data standardization. The changes, effective March 11, 2024, aim to enhance algorithm transparency, FHIR-based data exchange, and real-world testing. They aim to provide improved support for innovation and compliance and align health IT certifications with developments in the industry.
