Google has launched a new feature aimed at protecting data on Android smartphones if they’re stolen. Named “Identity Check”, the feature is initially available on Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices. It must be activated by the user and works by locking sensitive settings once a device leaves previously set trusted locations. The settings can only be changed through biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition. The feature applies to settings such as passwords, biometric data, theft protection, and trusted locations.
