Rumours that certain USB-to-Ethernet dongles may contain malware from Russia or China designed to spy on users have been dispelled as false. The dongles were in fact found to contain SPI flash chips which, used alongside the USB, present a ‘virtual CD drive’ to users when the dongle is plugged in.
