Scientists at Macquarie University in Australia have created a genetic pest control method, Toxic Male Technique (TMT), which targets female insects’ lifespan significantly reducing their ability to spread disease. It involves genetically modifying male insects to produce a venom in their semen that shortens the lifespan of the female by up to 64%. TMT could provide a quick, non-harmful alternative to pesticides.
