Internet-Connected Medical Devices and Cybersecurity Risk

Medical devices are at risk of cybersecurity breaches due to outdated software, insufficient encryption and weak password security, with nurse call systems and infusion pumps identified as the most risky. In response, the FDA has mandated that new device manufacturers submit a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy, and regularly release updates and patches. Device safety is not only the responsibility of manufacturers and healthcare providers but also of patients and caregivers.
