The US Treasury Department was hit by a major cybersecurity attack, with suspected Chinese hackers remotely accessing certain computers and unclassified files. A compromised key from software service provider BeyondTrust was used for this intrusion. Since then, the Treasury Department has been working with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the FBI. Evidence points towards a state-sponsored Advanced Persistent Threat actor from China. BeyondTrust service has been taken offline and so far, there is no evidence of continued access.
