A major dark web operation has been discovered that systematically collects and exploits genuine identity documents and images to help bypass Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures. The operation, originally noticed in Latin America, is also present in Eastern Europe. The threat puts organisations in a dilemma, where they need to detect legitimacy of credentials. In response, organisations are encouraged to use multi-layered identity verification systems to challenge this emerging threat.
