What is PKI (Public Key Infrastructure)?

PKI (public key infrastructure) is a security framework enabling secure data exchange over the internet, using digital certificates and public key encryption. It uses a two-key asymmetric cryptosystem to ensure confidentiality and data integrity. The goal of PKI is to provide a system for creating, managing and revoking digital certificates and for enabling public key encryption. PKI’s applications include systems like Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocols and digital certificates, whereas potential issues include trust verification and security risks related to certificate authorities.
