Researchers Uncover PyPI Packages Stealing Keystrokes and Hijacking Social Accounts

Cybersecurity researchers have found two malware packages, named zebo and cometlogger, surreptitiously added to the Python Package Index (PyPI) repository. Both packages, designed for data exfiltration and surveillance, were downloaded multiple times, especially from Russia, China, the U.S., and India, before being removed. Zebo uses obfuscation techniques, like hex-encoded strings, while cometlogger steals an extensive range of information from applications.
