Rhode Island’s health and benefits system, RIBridges, was breached by hackers who are now demanding ransom and threatening to expose sensitive resident data, such as names, addresses, social security numbers and banking details. Officials promptly took the system offline and alerted Deloitte while urging residents to protect themselves from possible identity theft. The breach primarily impacts users of Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, and other state benefit programs.
